The Highveld raider from the Joey Soma yard, Rodeo Sioux, had earned a cheque in her last fourteen starts, which were run over distances of 1 800-2 600m, and must be rated the most consistent female stayer in the country. She duly started favourite at 7-2.

Antonia’s Fortress set the pace with Rodeo Sioux on the rail in third and Roc ‘N Rose also on the rail two horses further back. Roc ‘N Rose threw her head up rounding the first turn for a stride or to, but fortunately the race was run at a consistent pace and she settled into her stride.

In the straight Rodeo Sioux hit the front and Rock ‘N Rose challenged and then went ahead. Rodeo Sioux fought back but Roc ‘N Rose showed a lot of courage to repel her and win by a head. The topweight Star Jet finished third followed by Enchanted Silk and Dame Victoria.

Roc ‘N Rose was bred by JA Taylor and is owned by BP Meth and the bold black type that she gained will have immediately increased her value.
