RACE 1

(9) Genteel made a smart provincial debut so is the firm first selection to open proceedings for the day. (8) Fire Alarm finished just behind the top selection and will be the main danger. (10) Noodsberg is well bred however has been well beaten in both her starts in the Cape. She can show improvement here so is one to watch. (5) Tartan Queen is never far back in recent starts and can fill in the placings. ( Devonne Govender 9-8-10-5)

RACE 2

(2) Medlers Tart may just be short of a run but she has the class to win this contest. She has run some good races against top quality stayers in the province, with just 57.5kgs on her back she will be a serious contender. (1) Official Secret ran a smart race in her last start at massive odds, although she is very capable on her day, she has to shoulder topweight in a very competitive contest which could make things difficult. (3) Woman’s World won extremely well in her last start and another big performance can be expected. (6) Lady Writer is holding consistent form against weaker and can get into the action, include in quartets. ( Devonne Govender 2-1-3-6)

RACE 3

(3) Blue Holly has the ability to win this contest and could represent some value here. She gets Rachel Venniker up who will claim 1.5kgs which could make all the difference. (2) Happy Holly is very smart, she has solid form and can blow this field away however she may just need the run. (6) Symbol Of Love won a gutsy race in the last start and won’t be far. (7) Ellorix is holding form well and will be in the mix, she does run extremely well on turf so is a must include. ( Devonne Govender 3-2-6-7)

RACE 4

(1) Jack In The Green ran extremely well in the last start and looks to be a huge runner here especially with Richard Fourie sticking with the ride. (5) Military Man ran a cracker at big odds in the last start and a repeat performance will see him finishing in the money, not without a winning chance. (7) Lady Zultanite is a smart horse and will be there despite returning from a short break. (4) Nothingelsematters is never far back and should be included into quartets. ( Devonne Govender 1-5-7-4)

RACE 5

(5) Travel Master is holding consistent form hence he is the top selection. His last run was a cracker so he deserves huge respect. (1) Pedro shoulders topweight but is in top form and will be right there. (3) My Bestie is very capable on his day and will run a huge race, he could be good value for the placings. (7) To The Hilt is capable of a big finish and is one to watch closely, he does have a tough draw but can feature. ( Devonne Govender 5-1-3-7)

RACE 6

(1) Luna Halo ran a cracker in the last start, she is very classy and will take a power of beating. (2) Gimme’s Lassie won a gutsy race in the last start and will be the main danger to the top selection. (5) Back For More is always in the mix and can get into the quartets. (3) Golden Pacific is capable of getting involved here so is a must include in larger perms. ( Devonne Govender 1-2-5-3)

RACE 7

(1) My Best Shot is a very smart horse, he is highly rated by the yard and will be the firm first selection. (6) Play Act is holding solid form and will be there in the mix once again. (4) On My Honour is holding excellent form but will be tested here in this competitive line up. (2) We Have Touchdown represents decent Cape form and won’t be far. ( Devonne Govender 1-6-4-2)

RACE 8

Very open race. (1) Joy And Peace is a top filly hence she is the first selection in this highly competitive line up. (11) Holding Thumbs has been racing well and will be a big danger with the light mass. (4) Runaway Song has been running consistently and another honest run is expected. (9) Call To Unite is holding top form and another big performance can be expected. Punters are urged to play as wide as the budget allows. ( Devonne Govender 1-11-4-9)

RACE 9

(1) Cruise Control is in top form and has been winning impressively in recent starts so must be respected. (2) Fairy Knight is very classy and although he will prefer further, he isn’t without a chance. (5) Gimme’s Laddie is holding excellent form and another big run can be expected. (10) Anuschka’s World was narrowly beaten in the last start and will have a big say here. ( Devonne Govender 1-2-5-10)

Johannesburg, 15 October 2024 – 4Racing in conjunction with the Handicappers have published the first log for the 2024 R6 million Gr1 Betway Summer Cup to be run at Turffontein on Saturday 30 November.

Second entries close at 11am on Tuesday 05 November, and final entries at 9am on Monday, 18 November 2024, after which weights will be announced. Declarations must be in by 11am on Wednesday, 20 November 2024 and barrier draws will be conducted at a Betway event on 20 November 2024. The final log will be published on Tuesday 05 November 2024.

TABGOLD have added a Pick 6 to their daily menu of QuickMix bets, which are popular with many customers because they combine races from different local and international meetings, and are completed much quicker than multi-race bets on single meetings.

The addition of the Pick 6 brings the number of QuickMix pools offered most days to six – three Jackpot QuickMixes and a QuickMix BiPot, Place Accumulator and Pick 6. Until further notice, the QuickMix Pick 6 will always be the last six legs of the Place Accumulator QuickMix.

To play the Pick 6 QuickMix, TABGOLD retail customers must mark VENUE SPM and RACE 2 on the betting form.

It must be noted that the Pick 6 first-timer rule will apply to South African races in the bet if these races form part of a South African Pick 6. The first-timer rule will not apply to all other races, including South African races that are not part of a local Pick 6.

Local Quartet pools with fractional betting on selected UK race meetings will return to the TabGold betting menu from this Thursday following a mixed reception from customers to the introduction of commingled Quartet pools on all UK and Irish race meetings last month.

Such commingled Quartet pools have been welcomed in some quarters, but many TabGold customers have complained that this has resulted in them being unable to play fractional Quartet bets on UK races.

TabGold have taken note of the complaints and from this Thursday 12 September customers can enjoy the best of both worlds. As before local Quartet pools with fractional betting will be offered on two UK meetings most days with commingled Quartet pools on all other UK and Irish meetings.

Whether an Irish or UK meeting has local or commingled pools will be displayed clearly on Tab sheet race cards in store and online.

Unfortunately for several reasons, including vast differences in exchange rates, it is not technically possible to offer fractional bets on pools commingled internationally.

The minimum unit for commingled bets is R1 (more in the case of countries like the USA) and this is itself a fractional bet in international tote pools.

As an example, the unit of a UK Tote Quartet is one Pound and a customer playing a R1-unit Quartet with TabGold on a UK race is buying about 1/24th of the bet, depending on the exchange rate on the day. And if that bet is the only winning ticket, the customer will get 1/24th of the pool and the remainder will be carried over. To get the full UK Tote payout on a commingled Quartet requires playing the bet to a R24 unit.

That aside, the introduction of commingled Quartet bets has given TabGold customers many more opportunities to play Quartets on UK and Irish races, and access to bigger pools and payouts.
